Chelsea’s Timo Werner clears the air on how he decided not to play Champions League

Chelsea wrapped up the deal for Timo Werner after triggering the £53 million release clause. The player snubbed Liverpool for Chelsea after the Reds failed to meet the release clause. Chelsea are awaiting for his arrival as soon as first July.

Many people criticized Werner for excluding himself from Leipzig squad that will face the quarter finals. His coach tried to defend him saying his decision is paramount. Many football legends said that he had betrayed his club.

According to Goal.Com, Timo Werner has clearly expressed why he had to exclude himself. He narrated “Both Chelsea and Leipzig came into an agreement that I will be a Chelsea player as from July first. The Blues are going to pay me salary as from July as the contract portrays. I feel sad that I can’t help to play for Leipzig now.”

The Bundesliga was ended on Saturday and Werner is looking forward to flying to London to keep up with his next to be teammates. He has left a record at Leipzig for being the highest goal scorer for the club all time. He is also the first German player to score 28 goals in a single season
