However, this Announcement has come with a warning from the federal government that the schools should take caution to avoid more Covid-19 cases.
Southwest states like Lagos and Osun, have Annouced that their schools will reopen from the 14th and 21st of September 2020. The Lagos State government has Annouced that it’s basic schools will resume on the 14th of September. While it’s tertiary institutions will then resume on the 21st of September. And few days after, the Osun state government Annouced that it’s primary, secondary and tertiary institutions will reopen on the 21st of September.
However, Nigeria health minister says schools should take caution as covid-19 is very dangerous and can still take life. And the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU has also handed a warning to Nigerian governments that tertiary institutions shouldn’t be reopened yet.
ASUU wants the government to wait until a solid way to control the spread of covid-19 has be found. The body also said as things stand, it’s nearly impossible for higher institutions to practice social distancing.
However, the minister of state education, Hon. Emeka Nwajiuba has said that the federal government has not yet given a date for Universities to reopen in Nigeria. But the school Resumption Announcement that some states governments are annoucing is causing some worry among parents.
So what do you think about this and do you think ASUU is right that it’s still not safe for schools to resume? Please comment so I can know what you think about this and I will surely reply back. Don’t forget to follow me, like and share. Thanks.
